Leading refractories producer RHI AG, based in Vienna, has acquired SMA Mineral Magnesia and its plant. The production plant in Porsgrunn, Norway, will from now on be a part of the RHI Group, and will change its name in a short while. The company will be a producer of high-graded fused magnesia, based upon existing MgO production. RHI will subsequently invest up to EUR 70 million in a melting plant at the site of SMA. Starting in the summer of 2012, RHI will produce up to 80,000 tonnes of high-graded fused magnesia in Norway.

SMA Mineral Group has entered into a long term supply agreement with RHI regarding purchases of Mg(OH)2 for processing chemicals to be supplied to customers in the pulp  and paper industry. SMA Mineral Group will therefore continue to supply these markets in the future.

The information related to SMA Mineral Magnesia will in a short matter of time be a part of RHI AG's webpage.
